A doctor in Hawaii who was arrested this week has been charged with second-degree attempted murder after allegedly trying to push his wife off a cliff in Hawaii, Honolulu police said.
The 36-year-old woman, who has not been publicly named, survived the March 24 attack at a famous scenic spot in Oahu, Hawaii, but remains in critical condition.
Her husband, 46-year-old Gerhardt Konig, initially fled the scene but was arrested later in the evening, the Honolulu Police Department previously said in a statement.
He was charged with second-degree attempted murder, police said in an update on Wednesday, March 26. Bail was set at $5 million.
Konig is expected to make his first court appearance on Thursday, Island News reports. His attorney, Myles Breiner, told the outlet his client does not have a criminal history.
“Why he did this? That’s a mystery… he has nothing on his record here or anywhere else he’s ever lived in,” Breiner told Island News. “So it’s rather surprising that out of nowhere, he would engage in this kind of behavior.”
