A new book, “Original Sin,” claims that the Biden family engaged in a pattern of denial and secrecy regarding Beau Biden’s cancer treatment, even as he served as the Attorney General of Delaware. The book alleges that the family deliberately withheld information from the public and misled the media about Beau’s health, citing a desire to avoid acknowledging the severity of his illness.
According to excerpts from the book, Beau Biden collapsed during a family vacation in the summer of 2013 and subsequently underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor. As his public appearances and media interviews decreased in the fall of that year, the book claims that Joe Biden and Beau’s team debated internally about the extent of disclosure, ultimately deciding to remain silent. “In September, Biden and Beau’s team internally debated how much to disclose about Beau — the vice president’s son and a state’s top law enforcement officer — but ultimately said nothing,” the book states. “In November, Beau told a local reporter he had been given a ‘clean bill of health.’”
However, months later, in February 2014, a neurologist revealed that Beau had undergone surgery to remove a “small lesion” from his brain, contradicting later accounts by then-Vice President Biden that the tumor was “larger than a golf ball.” During this period, Beau continued to serve as Delaware’s Attorney General while receiving treatment across the country, reportedly using the alias “George Lincoln” when entering hospitals.
The book further alleges that Beau’s wife, Hallie, expressed confusion about the family’s decision to conceal his declining health, believing that public support would have been beneficial. However, Joe and Beau Biden reportedly remained adamant about withholding information from the public.
In addition to the claims about Beau Biden’s treatment, “Original Sin” alleges that then-Vice President Joe Biden instructed his staff to “mislead” the media about his whereabouts. While his team publicly stated that he was traveling to Delaware on weekends, he was allegedly traveling to Houston to be with Beau for treatment. “Publicly acknowledging Beau’s illness would make it a reality,” the book states. “It was them against the world.”
Beau Biden died of a glioblastoma brain tumor in May 2015 at the age of 46.
The book, which details the 2024 election cycle, also asserts that President Biden’s team orchestrated a cover-up to conceal the extent of his cognitive decline. It joins a growing number of publications that have raised questions about Biden’s cognitive function and his decision to seek re-election.
Neither representatives for the Biden family nor the former president have immediately responded to requests for comment regarding the allegations in the book.
