An off-duty New York Police Department (NYPD) housing officer was brutally assaulted and robbed of his firearm and personal belongings in the Parkchester neighborhood of the Bronx early Saturday morning, according to police sources. The incident occurred while the officer, who was still in uniform, was walking to his personal vehicle after completing his shift.
The 27-year veteran of the force was approached by two masked individuals dressed in black around 4:10 a.m. along St. Peters Avenue. The assailants reportedly attacked the officer and forcibly took his gun belt, which contained his service weapon, from the vehicle.
During the assault, the officer sustained a fractured eye socket after being kicked in the head while on the ground, sources reported. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition later on Saturday. According to a source, the officer was on a phone call with another officer when the attack occurred and pleaded with the assailants, saying, “Don’t shoot me! I’m a cop!” before they fled the scene.
In addition to the officer’s gun, the masked individuals stole his wallet, identification cards, and both his personal and NYPD-issued cell phones, sources indicated. Police are currently investigating the incident as potentially connected to a larger robbery pattern in the Bronx, according to sources familiar with the investigation.
