President Donald Trump stated on Monday his intention to withdraw $3 billion in federal grant money from Harvard University, citing the institution as “very antisemitic.” His remarks on Truth Social also criticized the Ivy League school for what he perceived as a delay in providing a comprehensive list of its foreign students, which he believes is necessary to identify “radicalized lunatics.”
“I am considering taking Three Billion Dollars of Grant Money away from a very antisemitic Harvard, and giving it to TRADE SCHOOLS all across our land,” President Trump wrote. “What a great investment that would be for the USA, and so badly needed!!!”
His threat follows closely after a recent legal challenge where the White House sought to revoke the legal status of thousands of foreign students enrolled at Harvard. However, a federal judge intervened, issuing a temporary block against immigration officials from taking such action.
President Trump further accused Harvard of deliberately stalling on his request for a complete roster of its international students. “We are still waiting for the Foreign Student Lists from Harvard so that we can determine, after a ridiculous expenditure of BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, how many radicalized lunatics, troublemakers all, should not be let back into our Country,” he posted. “Harvard is very slow in the presentation of these documents, and probably for good reason!”
The former commander-in-chief also commented on Harvard’s recent legal victory, suggesting the university strategically sought out a favorable judge. “The best thing Harvard has going for it is that they have shopped around and found the absolute best Judge (for them!) – But have no fear, the Government will, in the end, WIN!” he asserted.
This statement refers to a ruling last week by Boston U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs, who granted Harvard’s request for a temporary restraining order against the Department of Homeland Security. This order prevented the department from proceeding with its plan to remove the legal status of the 6,793 foreign students enrolled for the 2024-25 academic year at Harvard.
