Honolulu police found the woman on a hiking trail after they received a report of a man beating a woman, per their initial statement.
The victim alleged to police that Konig, her husband, tried to throw her off the trail before striking her in the head several times with a rock.
It wasn’t immediately clear who reported the attack, but police say there were two witnesses who also called 911.
Konig allegedly attacked his wife because she refused to take a picture with him, Hawaii News Now reported, citing police. The woman suffered multiple injuries to her head and face, according to the Honolulu Emergency Services.
The couple, who live in Maui, were in Oʻahu at the Pali Lookout area, famous for its scenic view at an elevation of 1,200 feet with “winds so strong that one can lean against the wall of wind,” according to the Division of State Parks.
According to unspecified sources, they were on vacation, KHON 2 reported. Public records show the woman’s birthday is in March.
