Trump Says Putin Has Gone “Absolutely Crazy” Following Massive Ukraine Air Attack, Criticizes Zelensky
WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump publicly stated on Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin “has gone absolutely CRAZY” and conveyed his dissatisfaction with Putin’s actions after Moscow initiated its largest aerial assault on Ukraine since the three-year war began.
“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever,” Trump posted on Truth Social. This statement followed remarks to reporters hours earlier where he said, “I’m not happy with what Putin is doing. He’s killing a lot of people, and I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin.”
In the same post, Trump shifted his criticism towards Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who earlier in the day had stated that “America’s silence” encourages Putin to continue his military offensive.
“Likewise, President Zelenskyy is doing his Country no favors by talking the way he does,” Trump wrote. “Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop.”
The recent attacks across Ukraine resulted in at least 12 fatalities, including children, according to official reports, with dozens more injured. Russia’s aerial bombardment of Ukraine has intensified as international pressure mounts on Putin to consider a ceasefire proposal.
Zelensky commented on Sunday morning, “The world may go on vacation, but the war continues, despite weekends and weekdays. This cannot be ignored. America’s silence, and the silence of others in the world, only encourages Putin.”
Later on Sunday evening, Trump informed reporters that he is “absolutely” considering imposing additional sanctions against Russia, a measure that Zelensky has been advocating for. Trump had previously indicated his reluctance to join any new sanctions, suggesting a “chance” of progress in resolving the conflict, but noted that his stance could evolve.
Trump, who has frequently highlighted his positive relationship with Putin, engaged in a conversation with the Russian leader on Monday in an attempt to broker a 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Following this call, as well as subsequent discussions with Zelensky and other European allies, Trump announced that “Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations toward a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War.”
Trump further stated that the conditions of any agreement “will be negotiated between the two parties, as it can only be, because they know details of a negotiation that nobody else would be aware of.”
