A peculiar discovery in Buga, Colombia, has ignited discussion within the scientific and online communities, with some speculating that a recently found sphere could be an unidentified flying object (UFO). The object was reportedly spotted flying over the town on March 2 before landing, according to the social media page @Truthpolex.
Jose Luis Velazquez, a researcher examining the three-layered sphere, has noted its unusual construction, stating that it exhibits “no welds or joints,” features typically associated with human-made objects. This observation has bolstered his belief that the sphere may have extraterrestrial origins.
However, Julia Mossbridge, the executive director of the Institute for Love and Time (TILT) and a member of the University of San Diego’s Department of Physics and Biophysics, remains skeptical of such claims. In a statement to Fox News Digital, she suggested that the object “looks to me like a really cool art project,” urging caution against drawing premature conclusions about its origin.
Mossbridge framed the appearance of the mysterious sphere as part of a broader context where humanity is increasingly acknowledging its limitations in understanding the world around it. “We are entering a time when we don’t have the control that we thought we had,” she said, adding that pre-existing beliefs in total mastery can hinder our understanding when “something shows up that doesn’t fit our model of the world.”
She further suggested that if the sphere is an artistic creation, it might reflect a similar sentiment – an acknowledgment that “we don’t understand what’s in our skies, what’s in our waters. And there’s something going on that’s essentially bigger than us.”
Mossbridge pointed out that the US federal government has admitted to the existence of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs) that are under investigation. She also highlighted the work of various independent coalitions, such as the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies, the UAP Disclosure Fund, and the Galileo Project, which consist of individuals from diverse political backgrounds working to gather rigorous information about these phenomena, often independently of government investigations and seeking international cooperation.
Emphasizing the importance of thorough analysis, Mossbridge urged that any mysterious discoveries should be vetted by expert groups like the Galileo Project to determine if the material is “clearly non-human-made” before being classified as anomalous or a UFO. While she expressed reservations about the Buga discovery, she acknowledged that her skepticism does not necessarily “discount all the other objects that are of extraterrestrial origin.”
