A small aircraft crashed into a residential area in Southern California early Thursday morning, triggering several fires and prompting a significant emergency response.
Emergency services were dispatched to the crash site near the Tierrasanta neighborhood of San Diego shortly before 3:50 a.m. local time, according to the California Highway Patrol. At the time of the initial report, the CHP did not provide information regarding potential casualties.
A photograph shared on the social media platform X depicted a substantial blaze in the vicinity of what is described as military housing.
The individual who posted the image expressed shock and concern, writing, “A small plane just crashed in my neighborhood??????????? What the f–k.”
Initial reports indicate that the aircraft involved was a Cessna Citation II, a model typically capable of carrying seven to eight passengers.
Authorities are currently on the scene assessing the situation, battling the fires, and investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. The extent of the damage to the homes and the potential for injuries remain unknown at this time.
