Former Ohio State and Penn State wide receiver Julian Fleming was seriously injured in an ATV accident in rural Pennsylvania that tragically resulted in the death of his girlfriend, Alyssa Boyd, authorities confirmed.
The Pennsylvania State Police reported that Fleming, 24, was operating a Yamaha quad on a rural road in Bradford County, near the New York state border, on Sunday when the ATV struck a deer that unexpectedly entered their path.
According to police, Alyssa Boyd, 23, who attended the University of Alabama, sustained fatal “extensive injuries” in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Fleming, a Pennsylvania resident, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Guthrie Troy Community Hospital for treatment. State police indicated that neither Fleming nor Boyd was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Local media outlets, including PennLive, have identified Fleming as the former college football standout who played for both the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Social media posts and reports from 247sports.com indicate that Fleming and Boyd were in a relationship. Authorities recovered the body of the deer believed to have caused the accident. Family members of Alyssa Boyd declined to comment when contacted on Sunday.
Julian Fleming was a highly regarded high school athlete at Southern Columbia High School in Catawissa, Pennsylvania, where he was recognized as the top wide receiver recruit nationally and named the 2019 Pennsylvania player of the year by both Gatorade and PennLive. As a five-star recruit, Fleming initially committed to play college football at Ohio State University in 2019. During his time with the Buckeyes, he played in 38 games, recording 80 receptions for 990 yards and seven touchdowns.
After graduating in December 2023, Fleming transferred to Penn State University, where he participated in 16 games for the Nittany Lions. However, his playing time was limited by injuries in the latter part of the season. Following the 2025 NFL Draft, Fleming signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent. This contract was later rescinded after Fleming failed his physical examination, approximately three weeks prior to the fatal ATV accident.
