A woman has died after being found with severe injuries at Yosemite National Park last Thursday, the National Park Service said.
NPS, in a statement to USA TODAY Thursday said it “is investigating the death of a woman who was found injured March 20 at concessioner housing in Yosemite Valley.”
The deceased, a 34-year-old woman from Fresno, California, was found with severe injuries by law enforcement rangers and rescue personnel, who responded to reports of a medical emergency in the employee housing unit.
She was transported to a hospital in Fresno, where she died of her injuries the next day, according to the statement.
While NPS did not identify the woman, the statement said she was an employee of Yosemite Hospitality.
“The NPS Investigative Services Branch is investigating the death alongside the Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office and Federal Bureau of Investigation,” the statement said, adding “no further information is available at this time.”
Authorities investigating to determine if death was suspicious
However, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Tony Botti told the LA Times that park rangers suspected her injuries and death to be suspicious.
“We at the Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the investigation to see if it is indeed suspicious,” Botti told the media outlet, adding there was no substantial evidence pointing towards that at this point.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for more information on the incident.
